Hello Everyone,
Hope everyone is ready for a special Valentine treat tomorrow (a day early). Members of the Caliente Barbershop Quartet will entertain us so come and be ready to a have a good time. This is the first time we’ve ever had Allen Lyon and the Quartet for entertainment. You can order lunch from the special menu sent Monday or from the regular menu.
Thank you to last week’s speaker is Martin Brady, Director of Business Incubation at San Juan College. He gave a very informative talk outlining the many services that can help entrepreneurs and small business owners in making their efforts successful. He also discussed the Big Idea Makerspace that has a variety of machines available to the community at a small fee.
Monthly Board Meeting immediately following the luncheon meeting.
Key Club Faculty Advisor, Omego (Meg) Soto, Rociante High School, sent an email to let us know she is retiring for personal reasons and that Bradley McKibben will take her place. The Rociante Key Club started out 23 strong, they now have 6 participants and are hoping the recruit many more students. They look forward to growing Key Club and continue to be involved in projects such as: Riverfest, Turkey Trot, Dining With the Dead, Ice Cream Social, and more. Erin Gockel is the Kiwanis Advisor.
Treasurer, Chris Troyer, announced at last week’s meeting that Kiwanis received $4,000 from Four Corners Foundation for Clothes for Kids. This program takes approximately $30,000 to run each year. Some of our fundraisers held during the year go towards this wonderful program. Each year, Kiwanis, invites approximately 300 underprivileged elementary children to shop with a volunteers who help them select $100 ea in school clothes at Target. Their Teachers and counselors select the kids who are most in need of clothing.
Note to All Committee Chairs-mark your calendars for April 17. Give a report on your program, date, and this will be a good time to ask for volunteers. If you are a Chair and unable to attend, consider asking a co-chair to come in your place.
Special message from Lynne Harris:
Got Old Purses? Please donate them! My friend is going to give them to the ladies in the nursing homes in Bloomfield. Any condition will do! These ladies aren’t going out for the night, but we want to remember them on Mother’s Day. Please contact Lynne and she’ll pick them up. Thank you! 505-215-5191
