Hello Everyone,

Our speaker tomorrow is Sonnie Rodriquez.   Social Work Unit, Law Offices of the Public Defender-Aztec, saw an opportunity to start a community project at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center (SJCADC) to create 3 resources: a resource wall near the front of the main entrance/exit of the Detention Center, an exit/release video that individuals can watch when leaving SJCADA, and a phone charging station. Often when individuals are released, they become lost and overwhelmed.

Thank you to our speaker last week, Laykenn Kennedy with Faith Works.  She discussed overdose prevention, recognition, and response training.  Fentanyl, as we know, is a leading substance and becoming more and more known in our area. For some, it’s not just in our area, but also within our homes. How can we use a harm reduction approach to improve health, increase safety, and reduce risks? Narcan is one way. Many have never heard of it or may have and aren’t sure what it is. With Narcan, you can save a life.

Dining With the Dead is sold out! Good luck to all the actors and actresses, guides, and all the volunteers and hard working crew that have put in so much time!

Thank you to our wonderful guests that came last week!

If you have a speaker you’d like to schedule for Kiwanis, look at the Calendar of Events to see what dates are open. Confirm with Jill that date is available and book them. Your interest is appreciated.

Please keep these upcoming dates in mind.

We are expecting a Kiwanis full house with several guests attending on September 12th for Author Ann Hillerman’s presentation.

As a special favor would each of you respond to Jill if you plan to attend and if you are inviting guests who will attend with you.  We’ve never had a famous author speak at our meeting and we want to make sure members have a seat. Also, Alycia with No Worries, said she would need to set the room up a special way to accommodate a large group. Amy, with Amy’s bookstore, will have a table selling Ann’s books if anyone would like to purchase one or more. Ann is Tony Hillerman’s daughter. Alycia also mentioned advance lunch orders would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks to Gary Hansen for arranging for Ann Hillerman to speak to Kiwanis. Jill: jmcq2@yahoo.com
