Hello Everyone,
Our speaker tomorrow is Greg Allen. San Juan Safe Communities is a local non-profit organization involved in addressing societal issues. SJSCI produces “The Mayor’s Table” a video podcast with important information about Farmington & SJ County, UmattR program featuring local high school seniors who speak to youth about healthy decisions, a Mental Health Task Force, a Youth Homeless Demonstration Project, and NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Meet Kreig Durham, owner of Quill & Quest Bookstore-coming to Downtown Farmington! Kreig was invited to tell us about his new business located where Andrea Kristina’s was previously. He and his wife plan to have a variety of different genres including coffee and baked goods.
Many thanks to last week’s speakers, Jyl Adair, Carrie Olson and Summer Jakino with Presbyterian Medical Services. They gave an overview of all the programs offered at Festival of Trees, a long running beloved Holiday program in Farmington. They proudly said this is their 23rd Year!. Kiwanis is happy to be sponsoring the Teddy Bear Storytime on December 5 at 9am. Tickets are only $5.
Club President Nikki Taylor, husband Chris and Keira have gone to North Carolina to assist with cleanup from the 2 hurricanes. Their family lives in Boone, it was hit really hard but their home was not impacted. They have signed up to help on several volunteer detail lists so they can help as much as they can. Nikki promised to send pictures that will be on Rio del Sol Kiwanis FB page.
Laura Tucker with Logo Energy submitted her application and she has been approved for membership at a Special Board Meeting on Oct 17.
Teva Schofield , CFO with Heatwaves,and her manager Carmen Stewart have submitted their application and have been approved for Bronze membership at a Special Board Meeting on Oct 17.
Cody Conoyer, Owner Manager with Hills Insurance, was a past Kiwanis President and he also submitted his application. Cody says he is looking forward to getting involved. All 3 applicants have volunteered at Clothes for Kids!! Cody’s application was also approved at the Special Board Meeting on Oct 17.
Susan Furry, owner of Trip J Ranch, submitted her membership application. She is interested in being a Bronze Corporate Member. Susan will be inducted at her earliest convenience.
Would you like to earn a new Kiwanis pin? When you bring in 5 new members you are eligible for a Ruby Award pin. Simply keep up with how many members you’ve brought in and then let the Membership chair or Club Secretary know so your pin can be ordered and awarded to you.
(From Jill: ) Thank You to Debbie Fentiman and Gary Hansen! They have agreed to sit with our weekly speakers when I’m out of town which I truly appreciate. It’s a great way to meet people and find out more about them. Please say hello and introduce yourselves to our speakers and visitors.
At the last Board Meeting, the Board approved inviting the Barbershop Quartet (actually 6 to 8 gentlemen) to entertain us at our Sweetheart Valentine Luncheon on February 13. Be sure and invite your special someone or Friend to join you for the Valentine’s luncheon.
Bob Lehmer has Outback Tickets available. Tickets are $20 (book of 10 is $200) and they support Kiwanis Books for Kids. Each year Bob selects a Title One Elementary School to receive 1,000 Scholastic Books. Student select 2 books to take home for their very own. For each ticket sold, Arron at the Outback gives Kiwanis $15 (out of the $20). Tickets make great gifts or to take your family to dinner. More Volunteer Opportunities!!
Kiwanis Clothes for Kids needs 50 to 60 volunteers for each evening of Nov 6 and 7, 5:30 and 7:30. Encourage your co-workers to join you in shopping with a child and helping them with their selections of $100 in school clothes.

A Note from Brian Turner, Kiwanis Coats for Kids Chairman:
Nov 6~7 (6pm~8pm both nights)- This year we will be holding the event at the Animas Valley Mall, they have graciously allowed us to use a storefront to hand out all our coats. Volunteers will meet near Pro Image and Dillards. We will need a few volunteers to help with handing out some refreshments to the kids. If you are interested in helping please email brian.turner@morganstanley.com.
SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGERS
This year the Salvation Army is introducing “Register To Ring” as a way to manage volunteers; it features scheduling either as an individual or 2 or more. You can then select the location, date, and time when you want to volunteer. Simply scan the QR code and viola! You are ready to select your day and time that works for you to ring a bell. You can even bring your child to volunteer with you. The Salvation Army needs your help so please volunteer if you can.
