Hello Everyone,

Tomorrow is a special Day when Key Club members and Faculty Advisors from Farmington High, Piedra Vista, and Aztec High Schools share with Kiwanis about the projects they are involved in and their plans for the upcoming year. These high school students are phenomenal, high energy, and always willing to volunteer for area events. Local non-profits love to have their help and Kiwanis appreciates what they do for Dining With the Dead, Clothes for Kids, Coats for Kids, Shoes for Kids, and the River Reach Foundation and Duck Race.

Key Club International is a self-governing, student-led organization. Each year, Key Club members elect their student officers for club, district and international boards.

Key Club members receive guidance and support from adult volunteers, including Kiwanis advisors, faculty advisors and district administrators. Additionally, the Key Club International staff trains and assists district governors and international board members. The organization is funded by nominal dues paid by every member.

Happy New Year! This is a great time to begin thinking about Kiwanis membership. Does our club have a membership goal for the new year? Rio del Sol Kiwanis is undoubtedly the most active service club in the Four Corners area. Currently, our membership is down from our all time high of 62 members-we have 57. Invite your friends or business associates to join you for a weekly luncheon meeting to hear our interesting speakers, learn about our many children’s programs and fundraisers, plus meet a lot of friendlies! If they would like to get involved in the community and volunteer opportunities, then Kiwanis might just be what they are looking for.

Dining With the Dead is starting off the New Year with some of the actors performing for Leadership San Juan’s Multi-Cultural Day this Friday.

Shelly Diede as missionary Mary Eldridge

Ron Price as Wesley Sharver

Rick Burns as outlaw Tom Nance

Stephen Fishman as 1890’s photographer

Tony DiGiacomo as Ike Stockton

Nikki Taylor as MC and Co-Ordinator

Many Thanks to these folks for donating their time and talents! This is this the 7th or 8th year that Leadership San Juan has invited DWTD actors to attend and share pioneer stories about when they came to this area and why.

Bunco is a fast moving fun dice game played with 4 people to a table. At the end of each round, the losing team moves to the next table, the 2 winners stay and each couple changes partners. Kiwanis Bunco will be a modified version with 3 6’s being a Bunco. 3 dice of the same number = 5 points with the exception of 3 6’s =21 points.(Kiwanis Bunco Party is a modified version). The object of the game is to get as many points as possible so your team will be the winner. As you change tables thrughout the evening, you have the opportunity to meet different people. Ron Price agreed to MC the event and he will keep the game moving along. Very soon individual Bunco tickets will go on sale on the club website: www.riodelsolkiwanis.com. There will be a limited number available. Cost will be $40 plus a handling fee.

Your Help is Needed! If you have someone who could be a speaker in February, your help would be greatly appreciated. Feb 5 and Feb 19th are open. Please let me know if you can fill either of these openings.
