Mayor Nate Duckett awarded Rio del Sol Kiwanis with the Mayor’s Citizenship Award last evening in the City Council Chambers! Speaking for the club, I know everyone is as thrilled as I am that he chose Kiwanis to receive this award. Brian Turner was our spokesman and he did a great job of discussing our children’s programs. He told City Council members that every dollar Kiwanis raises goes to support and improve the lives of kids in our community. Thank you to Brian, Erin Hunt, Lori Kruger, Barb Chambers, and Bob Brooks attending to represent Kiwanis.
Kiwanis is a worldwide organization of volunteers committed to changing the World, One Community and One Child at a Time. The Rio del Sol Kiwanis club chartered on May 5, 2013 and since that time has been involved with several children’s programs.
Each year Kiwanis serves over 1,500 children thru the following programs:
Kiwanis Clothes for Kids-Chairman, Bob Brooks
Kiwanis Coats for Kids-Brian Turner
Kiwanis Shoes for Kids- Erin Hunt
Kiwanis Scholastic Books for Kids-Cody Cornoyer and Dr. Bob Lehmer
Throughout the year we fundraise to support the programs with Kiwanis Father’s Day weekend Pancake Breakfast, Dining With the Dead, Forks and Corks, Riverfest Duck Race, and our upcoming newest fundraiser-Kiwanis Fun Bunco Party next May 15.
Kiwanis Fun Bunco Fundraiser is now just over half sold out of Sponsor Tables! If you know a Business who might be interested in supporting Kiwanis children’s programs thru our newest fundraiser, please let Lori, Jareeen, Bernadette, or Jill know. Individual tickets won’t be printed yet but will be available sometime after the first of the year, number of individual tickets will be limited. These are great for people wanting to come and play Bunco but don’t want to purchase a Sponsor Table.
