Hello Everyone,
Patty Tharp and Joan Monninger are speakers tomorrow. Patty, Historian, author and Past President of SJC Historical Society and Joan, Executive Director, of the Aztec Museum are giving a presentation about the Tully House. Anna Helena Tully is portrayed by Joan Monninger in DWTD. The Tully House in Flora Vista is one of the oldest remaining homestead houses in the county. Anna Helena lost 2 of her grown children in a tragic drowning here and as a result, she later moved to Lincoln County.
Last Thursday’s speaker was Lisa Monee Korbas, at McCormick Elementary. She shared the story behind McCormick’s innovative Book Vending Machine—a program where students earn gold coins to “purchase” books as special prizes. What a novel idea to encourage young students to read!
Jareen White and Annette Reich will both be inducted this week. Jareen is with Presbyterian Medical Services, her sponsor is Chris Troyer and Annette is with Four Corners Home for Children, her sponsor is Jill McQueary.
Volunteers Needed. Can you please help for 2 hours Saturday morning of Sept 6 to help set up for Dining With the Dead? Let Paul know if you can. 505-860-5165
Hours 10am to 12pm. Also, volunteers to help with cleanup after the event.
Southwest District Convention in Laughlin, NV last weekend was attended by Bob Brooks, and Paul and Jill McQueary. We attended the Key Club Youth Protection class and a workshop on membership facilitated by Chris from Kiwanis International. He spoke about engaging potential members in service projects. Also, about making sure current members know how impactful and valuable their work is to kids.
Another interesting point was to promote an event on social media platforms, community boards and local media outlets to attract individuals passionate about the Kiwanis cause. And, ask members to share on their FB page. Another suggestion: ask a Key Club member to help with Instagram!
Club Treasurer
Jareen White has graciously offered to fill this position and Chris has gladly offered to help train her! Jareen is with Presbyterian Medical Services and the Presbyterian Festival of Trees Teddy Bear Story Time is her project.
National Day of Service – September 13
Club President Nikki announced that Kiwanis would join in by assisting the Salvation Army. Christopher Rockwell shared that volunteers are needed to help move clothing from storage containers in preparation for recycling.
Time: 9:00 a.m.–Noon

For more information: Call Christopher at 505-932-9311
Dining with the Dead final dress rehearsal is Friday. There will be 150 5th grade students attending for a Living History Lesson. It is a favorite for the actors to perform in front of the students.
