Hello Everyone,
Tomorrow’s Speakers are: Chief Deputy Assessor John Kuhn and Chief Deputy Treasurer Bryan Myers of San Juan County will be our speakers. Together, they oversee the vital responsibilities of collecting, managing, and distributing taxpayers’ funds to the many sectors that keep our county running. They will provide an overview of the functions of the Assessor’s and Treasurer’s offices and share insights into their roles. Both gentlemen are also candidates in the upcoming county election.
Last Week’s Special Guest Speaker was Dr. Jason Lucas from Orthopedic Associates. He gave a very interesting and eye opening presentation on Medicare, Medicaid, and malpractice insurance in our state. We are losing doctors and have a difficult time recruiting them to come to our city; a big reason is because of malpractice insurance.
It’s that time of the year when Annual Dues are Due. We love our members and hope to see you stay involved with our fun activities and many children’s projects. Please remember:
#KidsNeedKiwanis and #KiwanisNeedsYou

Clubs must grow to ensure a future of service to children and their families. Kiwanis International is encouraging membership growth. Our club will turn 13 years old next Cinco de Mayo-let’s challenge our members to bring in 13 new members this next year to commemorate the 13th year for Rio del Sol Kiwanis!
Today a very special Kiwanian will be awarded the George Hixson Award. The presentation will be made by the Hixson Committee. There will be a short presentation to honor this person.
Changing of the Guard is in two more weeks on September 25. The new Kiwanis Board will be installed for the 2025/26 year.

Coats for Kids Chairman, Brian Turner, announced that many coats were picked up from local schools and those in great shape will be added to the few hundred new coats scheduled to be given on Nov 5 and 6. Brian is asking for volunteers to meet at Animas Valley Mall office Tues, Sept 30 at 2pm to organize coats.
During the Board Meeting it was decided that Brian would appreciate a Co-Chair for Coats for Kids. Lori Monteverdi offered to Co-Chair. Many thanks Lori for volunteering with this wonderful program.
Shoes for Kids Chairman, Erin Hunt, reminded everyone that we still need volunteers to help box shoes and socks for about 350 students attending the Boys and Girls Clubs on Thursday, October 2. Meet at Carpet One Plus at 3:30.
We received an email from Marilyn Montoya asking if we would share the attached flyer with our club about the Tibbetts All-Abilities Park. Please take a moment to open and read.
Another email we received was from Bree:
My name is Bree and I am the treasurer for the Southwest district of Circle K International! Our district is hosting a cookie dough fundraiser and we wanted to reach out to our lovely Southwest Kiwanis presidents and see if you guys were potentially interested in buying cookie dough. It would be greatly appreciated if you guys could also share it with your home clubs, family, and friends. We are trying to raise money to make our upcoming events, such as Fall Rally and DCON, an unforgettable memory for our members.
(Circle K is college age students) See attached flyer (in email)
