Greetings Everyone,

Our speaker tomorrow is Audra Winters, Executive Director at San Juan Regional Medical Foundation.  The Foundation is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of the people in the Four Corners Community.  Our focus is on the Riley Men’s Health, Cathy Lincoln Foundation, Connelly House, and Wings of Hope.  We look forward to hearing from Audra.

A big thank you to Cody Diehl, Acting Superintendent of Farmington Schools for presenting to us last week.  Mr. Diehl said his goal is to improve student proficiency graduation rates and he also hopes to improve, extend, and enrich opportunities for the students and families in our community.  Cody hopes to recruit and retain effective teachers.  The Farmington School District has a $110,000,000 operating budget of which 60% of the budget goes to direct instruction.  Mr. Diehl shared much more information with us as we listened intently.  Thank you Mr. Diehl for presenting to us.

Wahoo!   We just received notification that Target is awarding Kiwanis $2,500 for our annual Clothes for Kids shopping this November!   99% of the money we raise goes towards purchasing new school clothes for underprivileged elementary children living in San Juan County and the Northwest corner of the Navajo Reservation.

Bob Lehmer, Scholastic Books chairman, informed us 1,000 Scholastic books have arrived for Apache Elementary and they will be distributed in  early fall.  More information soon to come on Kiwanis Books for Kids.

Lynette Kennard of the Santa Fe Kiwanis Club has reached out to our club for help with the staging of Zozobra on September 2, 2022.  They need help with ticket sales and  merchandise sales.  The shifts are 2:30-7:00 PM or 6:00 to end of shift.  The pay is $10/hour in the form of donation to our Kiwanis Club.  A volunteer application will be available mid July and I will forward link  as promptly as we receive it.  If you haven’t seen the Burning of Zozobra, it is a must see.  Please think about taking a fun trip to Santa Fe and lending a hand!

We would like to thank our guests who attended our meeting last week, Rhonda Stockert, Ginger Paternostro, and Charlotte Peacock all guests of Jill McQueary.  Thank you for taking the time to attend our meeting.  We welcome you to come join us again very soon.

Rhonda Stockert and Charlotte Peacock submitted their application for Kiwanis membership.  Rhonda and Charlotte are sponsored by Jill McQueary.  The Board has approved their application for membership. Congratulations to Rhonda and Charlotte!  Our new members will be inducted at their earliest convenience.

Get ready for a fun late summer Kiwanis Social.  Summer Jakino has very generously offered to have the social at her home on Saturday, Sept 17.  Fran, our social chairman has been working on finding a satisfactory date and looks like she found it!  Appetizers will be purchased by Kiwanis from our card drawing proceeds.  Fran has recruited her husband, Steve, to serve as bar tender. Mark your calendars and more details will come soon.
