Audra Winters, the CEO of the San Juan Medical Foundation was our speaker last week.  They have so many  wonderful programs to support the hospital and the members of our community.

CLUB MEMBER NEWS

Susan Burns has applied for membership. The Board has approved her, she will be inducted at her earliest convenience (likely Sept 3) Susan is sponsored by D’Ann Waters.

D’Ann is out for a couple of weeks in Luxembourg visiting her son.  Luxembourg is a very small country but it is the 2nd wealthiest country in the world.  Her stories should be quite interesting!

Kiwanis Summer Social: will be at 3:00 PM Sunday afternoon, September 13 at Summer Jakino’s home in the Country Club. Everyone is invited to attend.

Treasurer-Jareen White announced that she is in the process of sending out invoices for annual dues so keep an eye out.  Kiwanis has 3 types of memberships-individual dues are $175, Bronze Corporate are $235, and Platinum Corporate are $685.

Laykenn with Faith Works said their event was a huge success! The clothes were so popular and went quickly.   The backpacks and school supplies were gone very fast, also!  She will be gathering clothing and items again for their event in November; date TBD.

Weekly Card Game: only 11 cards left to draw from.  If your number is selected, you have a chance to draw the Ace of Spades and to win over $400! The card game supports Kiwanis Summer Social.

Susan Zint has offered to help Bob Brooks with Clothes for Kids on Nov 4 and 5.

She will be helping him also with Community Volunteers.

Emmeri Ortega will be the new Membership Director when the new Board takes office on Sept 24. This position will be a good fit for Emmeri as she’s with United Way and has many contacts in the community.

Membership is everyone’s responsibility if our club is to remain strong. Consider Inviting a friend to join you at the next luncheon to hear one of our interesting speakers.

Emmeri has offered to be in charge of Facebook posts and has agreed to make one to two posts per week.  Ed Kompare is great to take speaker pictures each week and post them on FB. He’s still waiting on his big break in the magazine world for photography!

The Chamber Business After Hours is sponsored by Basin Home Health.It is tomorrow from  5:30 to 7:30. 200 N. Orchard Ave. $10. Kiwanis is a member so attend and meet  new friends.

Cathryn Abeyta is Lucy Hoyle and Ron Price portrays Judge Granville Pendelton. When Lucy decided to not sell a piece of her land to the Judge in 1906, he didn’t take it well and wrote her a scathing letter. She took his letter to the Aztec newspaper and they published it! You’ve got to hear this story!

KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Ruby K Award honors Kiwanians who invite five or more new members during their Kiwanis career. This award is free to give and is cumulative, so previous recipients are eligible for a new Ruby K when they invite a certain number of additional members.

The Kiwanis Children’s Fund recognizes clubs, individuals or other donors who make an unrestricted gift of US$1,000 or more with a George F. Hixson Fellowship.
