Hello Everyone,

At the 8/27 meeting our guest was George DiRe. He was introduced by his long time friend and colleague Ron Price. They were working at the Children’s Detention Center helping troubled children through the legal maze and into more productive life. Mr. DiRe reviewed the need to encourage schooling and set up many way points for the child to manage in this endeavor. He also emphasized the need for empathy, resilience, support, family and accountability.

CLUB MEMBER NEWS  

Dining With the Dead is sold out!  13 years in a row and before the event!

Kiwanis Summer Social: will be at 3:00 PM Sunday afternoon, September 13 at Summer Jakino’s home in the Country Club. Everyone is invited to attend. Summer’s address is 5511 Country Club Dr.

Treasurer-Jareen White has sent out invoices for annual dues so keep an eye out.  Kiwanis has 3 types of memberships-individual dues are $175, Bronze Corporate are $235, and Platinum Corporate are $685.

Weekly Card Game: only 52 cards left to draw from! Starting all over as Brian Turner drew the Ace of Spades last week and won over $400.

Susan Zint is helping Bob Brooks with Clothes for Kids on Nov 4 and 5.

It’s still too early but soon they will be signing up volunteers to shop with the kids at Target. We need about 50 to 60 volunteers for ea evening so please put this on your volunteer calendar.

Emmeri Ortega will become Membership Director when the new Board takes office on Sept 24.

Consider Inviting a friend to join you at the next luncheon to hear  our interesting speakers. Just think where our club would be if everyone brought in just 1 new member. We’d have lots and lots of volunteers and likely more projects. (Just a thought!)

Brian Turner was the lucky winner last Thursday!  He drew the Ace of Spades from 11 cards left in the deck as President Kathy offered him his pick of cards.  No exact number yet but Brian won well over $400. Congratulations Brian!

Dining With the Dead is Sold Out! Over 2 weeks early.  We are ready to bring our community another wonderful event this year and are thankful to everyone who has volunteered to help. It takes over 40 volunteers to make our event run smoothly.

KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL NEWS

A Ruby K Award honors Kiwanians who invite five or more new members during their Kiwanis career. This award is free to give and is cumulative, so previous recipients are eligible for a new Ruby K when they invite a certain number of additional members.

The Kiwanis Children’s Fund recognizes clubs, individuals or other donors who make an unrestricted gift of US$1,000 or more with a George F. Hixson Fellowship.
