Hello Everyone,

Our speaker tomorrow is Captain Kevin Burns with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Dept. He will be presenting on the different types of human trafficking experienced in the four corners area and the difficulties associated with these types of investigations. He will discuss the complex realities of cases he has been involved with and how these cases impact our community. Captain Burns will discuss efforts and strategies agencies are employing to combat trafficking and support survivors.  This session aims to bring awareness to the challenges in the fight against human trafficking in our community.

Terri Lee has been approved for membership and plans to be inducted at tomorrow’s meeting.

Thank you to our speaker last week, Jason Rounds.  He is the President and CEO of San Juan Regional Hospital and he took over as the hospital’s CEO in early May 2003.  We were his first community speaking event when he came to Farmington!  It was great to hear so many wonderful things going on at the hospital and the hard work being done by Jason and his team to make our hospital better and better!

Congratulations to our Board Members.  Those that were added, changed, and stayed the same.  Thank you for your time and dedication.

Several Kiwanis members and FHS Key Club students met at Lori Kruger’s Carpet One last Wednesday to box and sort athletic shoes and socks for Kiwanis Shoes for Kids.  Many thanks to Lowe’s for donating money to purchase socks. There are still approximately another 80 pairs of shoes to be prepared before delivery to Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield Boys & Girls Clubs, as well as after school programs.

Thank you to Kiwanis members who took food to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for D’Ann’s husband Roy funeral services.  Please keep D’Ann and her family in your prayers.

A Note from Brian Turner, Kiwanis Coats for Kids Chairman.

Nov 6-7  (6pm-8pm both nights)-  We are excited for the Coats for Kids program again coming up.  This year we will be holding the event at the Animas Valley Mall, where they have graciously allowed us to use a store front to hand out all our coats.  We will need a few volunteers to help with handing out some refreshments to the kids.  If you are interested in helping, please email brian.turner@morganstanley.com.

Kiwanis Clothes for Kids is the same evenings:

Nov 6 and 7, 5:30 to 7:30 at Target. 50 to 60 volunteers are needed each evening. Sign up sheets will be available for Coats and Clothes volunteers.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR COATS: We are not having donation bins at the Fire Stations this year (due to low donations), but we have found the most success from businesses accepting donations at their place of business.  If your business would be interested in having a donation box, please email brian.turner@morganstanley.com and we will arrange for you to have a box, some wrapping paper to decorate it, and a poster.   We are looking for New or Gently used children’s coats (that we will professionally clean) but we will accept any size of coats because some of these children are wearing larger sizes and we find often that parents would benefit from a coat.

Thank you to our wonderful guests that came last week!

If you have a speaker you’d like to schedule for Kiwanis, look at the Calendar of Events to see what dates are open. Confirm with Jill that date is available and book them. Your interest is appreciated.

Please keep these upcoming dates in mind.

Nov 6 and 7-Kiwanis Clothes for Kids, shopping at Target. Volunteers arrive by 5:15pm. We need 50 to 60 per evening. Bob Brooks-Chairman

Also, Coats for Kids on the same dates, at Animas Mall, 6-8pm
