Hello Everyone,

State Senator Steve Lanier is our speaker Thursday. Steve replaces longtime State Senator Steve Neville, who served in this capacity since.2005. Lanier is a former San Juan County Commissioner.  He just returned from the 60 day Legislative Session in Santa Fe. Kiwanis will be one of the first groups to hear what went on and what was decided for New Mexico. Don’t miss this interesting presentation!

Nicole Clark was our speaker last week. She is a board member of Masada House, a transitional program for women. Their mission is to provide a safe, secure home for women recovering from substance and /or alcohol abuse and to practice the skills taught in treatment to become productive community members.

Grant Writing-Is there anyone willing to help write community grants? These help us fund our programs especially Kiwanis Clothes for Kids. Currently, I’m the only one writing these and I truly need help. The grants aren’t difficult, just takes a few hours of your time. Please let me know if you would be willing to help.

Club Elections-are April 17.  If you are interested in serving in one of these positions, please let President Nikki or Jill-Secretary know. The club will be notified 2 weeks in advance of election date for those running for offices.

2 Director Positions-2 Year Terms  

Chris Troyer and Lori Monteverdi have submitted their names.

Bob Brooks and Gary Hansen still have 1 year left on their terms.

Treasurer-Chris won’t be serving as Treasurer next year  (2 year Term)

New Officers take office on October 1.

Tickets for Kiwanis 2ndAnnual Forks and Corks For Friends are now on sale on our website: www.riodelsolkiwanis.com. The event will be at Triple J Ranch on Thursday, May 1 from 5:30 to 9PM with a Derby Theme. Share this information with your friends and let’s have a great turnout! You’ve received a copy of the flyer and it is now running with the Chamber of Commerce ,VisitFarmington Event page, and several other Social Media sites. Let Nikki know if you’d like to help on the committee. We’ll have live music, food, drinks, and prizes and lots of fun. Sponsorships available. All monies raised go to support Kiwanis Clothes for Kids.

Kiwanis Shoes for Kids-Many thanks to Erin Hunt, Lori Kruger’s daughter) for stepping up to Shoes for Kids Kiwanis has sponsored Shoes for Kids program for the past 7 years and each year has provided new athletic shoes and socks for children attending the Boys and Girls Clubs.  More information on this coming.

Amber Danek, FHS Key Club Faculty Advisor reports they are taking 40 students, 3 staff and 2 parents to Key Club DCON in Albuquerque this weekend: March 28-30. 

Their trip is all Fully Funded.  FHS Key Club sold 250 boxes of donuts to finish paying for the conference. They are very grateful for Kiwanis paying for the bus.

Kiwanis will be at Farmington Chamber of Commerce Business to Business Expo on Friday, April 4. Come and support our club!

Farmington Visitors and Convention Center Annual meeting is April 29 at Farmington Civic Center at 7:30AM.  Reservations are required.  Thanks to those who are going, it’s a fun, informative time as well as a very nice breakfast.

Riverfest duck tickets are now on sale. Purchase your lucky duck ticket for a chance to win one of the following prizes:
