Philip Ernest, Surgeon and Medical Director of San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Weight Loss and Wellness Clinic, was our special speaker at the 9/17 meeting. He reviewed the surgical methods for correcting severe obesity (bariatric surgery) and other surgical procedures using the robotic surgical equipment of DaVinci. Using the DaVinci means that it is less invasive, more precise, has less complications and has less recovery time. The hospital will be obtaining a newer model of the device in a few months.
He also noted that all current surgeons are being trained on the use of the DaVinci and they are attracted to joining hospitals that have this equipment.
