Greetings Everyone,

ADDENDUM: We DO have a speaker tomorrow.  Mike Stark, Manager of San Juan County will discuss the County’s Five-Year Strategic Plan and some specific projects relating to those plans.  One program implemented by the county is the Behavioral Health Resources Program (includes substance abuse).  This is one speaker you do not want to miss!

A big thank you to last weeks’ presenters, Andrea Pena and Sarah Herrera, Child Haven’s new Foster Care Recruiters.  Childhaven was started by members of our community in the late 1960’s, who housed children in their own home.  When a child is brought into the Childhaven, their story is told only one time, and then family advocates and therapy programs are put in place.  Childhaven provides further training in support for families involved and higher levels of therapy for the children. Childhaven is in need of foster parents and their first online informational session is August 24, 2022.  Andrea and Sarah had a giveaway and Lori Krueger and Bernadette Alarid were the big winners!  Thank you Andrea and Sarah for a wonderful, informative presentation.

Saturday, July 30, 2022, is the Back To School shopping event at Animas Valley Mall from 11:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.  We thank our volunteers, Lori Krueger and Charlotte Peacock, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM shift. and  Tony Digiacomo and Lela Holmes 1:00 – 3:00 PM shift.  Jill has ordered brochures, Tony has games, our vertical display will be on display next to our table, and the Mall will provide prizes.   This fun event is brought to our community by Animas Valley Mall.

Saturday, August 6, 2022…..Back To School at Farmington Civic Center from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. sponsored by American General Media and Presbyterian Medical Services.  There will be Covid shots for kids, demonstrations, and fun things for kids to do.  This is a great opportunity for Kiwanis to be visible in the community, share what Kiwanis does, recruit members, and sponsors.  Families attending are asked to donate school supplies.  Thank you to our volunteers working this event, Gary Hanson and Kathleen Mellott 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM shift  and  Chris Troyer and Jennifer Perry 12:30 – 3:00 PM shift.

If you haven’t yet had a chance to see THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE at the Lions Wilderness Park Amphitheater, the show is still going on July 28 through July 31, 8:00PM – 11:00 PM.  Take the family out for a real treat!

The Connie Mack World Series is still on till the end of the week!  Take time to take your child,  grandchild, to the ballgame!

New Mexico Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic will be held Sept 23-24, 2022.  They are looking for volunteers and patients.  Please see Nicole if you are interested in helping with this event.

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed) are coming to Farmington Civic Center next May 13, 2023!  They were both Presidents and they died on the same day, July 4, 1826.  This event is co-sponsored by Farmington Rio del Sol Kiwanis and the Civic Center.  Once the actors have completed their debate, they will take questions from the audience.  We have reached out to find someone to play a drum and fife, dressed in costume.  Plans are to show a film prior to event with pictures from 1776 era.
