Greetings Everyone,

 

Our speaker tomorrow is Olena Erickson, an immigrant from Ukraine, who has now lived in Farmington for over ten years. She came here speaking limited English, and is now a hostess at Chili’s Restaurant.  She says, “Did I face challenges? Did the government help me? Was I on food stamps? Who paid for my children’s education? Well, you would have to come to the April 28th meeting to find out.”  Please come join us and hear Olena’s story.

A big thank you to Megan Cullip of Good Neighbor Foundation for presenting to us last week. Megan, hospice chaplain and executive director of the Basin Good Neighbor Foundation spoke about neighboring, end of life, generosity, and the resources available to those in need.  Thank you for your informative presentation. 

The Kiwanis ProjectDon’t Meth With Us,  is in full swing.  Today, Country Club Elementary School will have the honor of getting educated about the many dangers of using drugs.  The program begins at 1:30PM.  If this is a program you feel you would be interested in being a part of, please join your fellow Kiwanis at Country Club Elementary, today at 1:30PM.  Paul and Jill McQueary started this program in 2006;  today, this program is international, being presented in five continents.  We are proud to be part of this worthwhile Kiwanis Project.  Of course, it takes volunteers to ensure all runs smoothly.  If this project piques your interest, please volunteer to help as we continue to present to our youth at the many Elementary Schools in our county.  

Tomorrow, April 28th, 2022, is Kiwanis Club Elections.  The following candidates are unopposed.  President Elect, Bernadette Alarid;  Secretary, Nikki Taylor;  Treasurer, Chris Troyer;  Membership, Dr. Bob Lehmer;  Community Director, Dr. Ed Kompare;  Board Member, Jill McQueary;  Board Member, D’Ann Waters.  The new Board will be voted in by acclamation. 

Tomorrow is Business After Hours from 5PM to 7PM at San Juan Country Club.  The event is hosted by Four Corners Economic Development and the cost is $5.  Kiwanis is a member so come socialize, meet new friends, eat, drink, and be very merry! Come join the fun.

We had many guests last week and we love it!  Kathi Giguere and Marissa Garcia from Major Mortgage joined us.  Kayce Dawes of Citizens Bank and a guest of Jill was present. Joan Monninger and Julie Gow brought a guest, Michael Sells of San Juan Mission.  Thank you all for joining us.  We hope you enjoyed your hour with us and we would love to have you come back very soon.

Joan Monninger, Chairman of the Downtown Farmington Historical Walk would like you to remind your friends and family to purchase your tickets for the exciting April 30th event.  There is much history being brought back to life and we are excited to hear all about it. Several old cars will be on display at Orchard and Main during the Historical Walk.  You can see what folks drove back in the 1920’s, 30’s, 40’s, and early 1950’s. The costumes are also a must see!  You can purchase your $15 tickets at Howard’s Cleaners 1601 North Dustin 505-325-5931 and at Artifacts Gallery 302 East Main 505-327-2907.  The proceeds are used to purchase Clothes, Coats, Shoes, and Books for our children in San Juan County.  Please purchase your tickets before they are sold out.  Come one, come all!  Hear all about it!

Jules Grandjean, owner of Proud Law, LLC has submitted his application for membership and has been approved unanimously by the Board.  We welcome you, Jules as our newest member and look forward to inducting you into the Kiwanis family.  Jules, you are our 60th member.  Welcome! 

Erin Gockel of Farmington Municipal Schools has agreed to be the Kiwanis advisor for Rocinante High School  Key Club.  The Faculty Advisor is Omega Soto of Rocinante High.  Thank you ladies, for taking our future leaders under your wings. 

A message from Jill…Invitations have been sent inviting club members to attend the Piedra Vista Key Club Chartering Ceremony on Tuesday evening May 3, at 6:00pm at Farmington Civic Center Terrace Room. Superintendent Gene Schmidt and incoming Superintendent Cody Diehl will both attend. Please mark your calendars as we sincerely hope you will come and support our newest Key Club. We want these students to feel very special as they become part of the Kiwanis Family.  President, Tony DiGiacomo, will lead the ceremony and install Key Club officers.  Rick Burns-Kiwanis Advisor, High School Faculty Advisor, and Key Club students and their families will be present at the ceremony.  Please let me know if you are able to bring a few dozen cookies.  jmcq2@yahoo.com

Another message from Jill … Ken Collins is working on Kiwanis new website. Soon, Ken will begin the process to get get it online (3 to 5 days).  Then ecommerce can be installed and we will be able to sell online tickets, a small service fee is charged for this service.  The site will have a box for Club News, this will show our newsletter. Corporate Members logos will be displayed and this will be a Big Plus!

Riverfest 2022 is just around the corner.  Volunteer now, to help at the Duck Ticket Booth or other areas. Half the proceeds from Duck Ticket sales will go to Kiwanis. Tvolunteer, select the link,  https://riverreachfoundation.volunteerlocal.com  The Riverfest Duck Race is May 29 at 2:00 PM.  Tickets are $5.00 or $50 for a book of twelve.  See D’Ann to get your book of tickets.  We all need to help sell, sell, sell….  You also can purchase tickets at these two centrally located sites, Carpet One Floor & Home, 3456 East Main Street 505-427-2530  and  Caregivers In Your Home 1910 North Dustin 505-325-7777.

Summer Jakino, Chairman of the Kiwanis Outback Steakhouse Pancake Breakfast, announced that there will be prizes for whoever sells the most Pancake Breakfast tickets!   $100 gift card from Clancy’s for 1st place and two $50 gift cards for 2nd and 3rd place winners. Tickets are only $10 for pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee, and orange juice.  In the past, this was a successful event.  Let’s take dad, hubby, or honey out to breakfast for a Father’s Day treat.  Bring the whole family, the price is a DEAL!  They will love and appreciate your thoughtfulness.  We would also like to thank Arron Hinshaw of the Outback Steakhouse, for generously donating 100% of the food for this tasty fundraiser.  Thank you Arron, you are so appreciated!

Big Brothers and Big Sisters is having their annual fundraiser, Bowl For Kids Sake, in June.  They are  looking for bowling teams and sponsors.  For more information, please contact Chris Troyer cdtroyer@gmail.com and let him know you are ready for action!  

The Children’s Hope Foundation is raffling a 2022 Keystone Hideout in hope of raising $75,000 to aid families with sick children.  The money will stay in the community and helps with gasoline, food, lodging, etc.  The tickets are $25 or 5 for $100.  You can purchase your tickets at  Go.rallyup.com
